Montgomery Herald - July 1, 2010
CONCORD – Congressman Larry Kissell (NC-08) announced Wednesday that the Star Housing Authority Troy Housing Authority and Mt. Gilead Housing Authority will receive grants under the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Capitol Funds program. The program annually provides funds to Public Housing Agencies for capital and management activities, including modernization and development of public housing.
“These funds will be put to good use to help renovate and modernize housing for our most disadvantaged citizens,” Kissell said. “I am glad to see these funds coming to the 8th District.”
Star will receive a grant for $43,970 under the program while the Troy Housing Authority will receive $136,374. Mt. Gilead will receive $48,741.
“We are so pleased to apply this money to improve the units in our public housing,” said Star Mayor Susan Eggleston. “This funding is an asset to the town, and especially to the people who live in these units.”
“We are always very appreciative of this type of funding which helps us serve our lower income citizens,” Troy Mayor Roy Maness said. “We greatly appreciate the help.”
As part of the 2010 Capital Fund Program, the 8th District will receive $3,254,100 for 11 Public Housing Authorities.
